Call for Expressions of Interest in Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships 2017 Competition

We seek to support strong researchers currently based outside Iceland in applying for Individual European Fellowships under the above scheme in which gender is one of the main cross-cutting theme this year. Applicants can be of any nationality but must not have spent more than 12 months in the last 3 years in the Iceland.

UNU-GEST fellows visit the President of Iceland

The 2017 cohort of UNU-GEST fellows visited the President of Iceland, Mr. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson and the First Lady, Mrs. Eliza Reid at Bessastaðir, the presidential residence, on the 27 February. The fellows were warmly greeted by the President and the First Lady.

UNU-GEST Staff, Associated Researcher and a Fellow talk at the Conference of Humanities 2017

UNU-GEST staff members, Erla Hlín Hjálmarsdóttir, and Dr. Pétur Waldorff; Dr. Giti Chandra, an associated researcher and the fellow Ekram Osman from Ethiopia will participate in the seminar called “Discrimination, justice and the role of humanities” at the University of Iceland as a part of the Humanities’ Conference 2017. The seminar sets out to explore the global challenges, such as gender inequality, inadequate education, effects of climate change and access to clean water, from the perspective of humanities and asks how this perspective can contribute to increasing justice and equality around the world.

UNU-GEST Researcher Dr. Anne Flaspöler reflects on her participation in the Future Force Conference 2017.

Dr. Anne Flaspöler, postdoctoral researcher at EDDA and UNU-GEST, participated in breakout panel session "Operation Peace: Challenges to Peacekeeping in the 21st Century" together with relevant representatives from the academia, diplomacy and the military entities, including the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations of the UN mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

Gender Full Spectrum Blog Series: How Migrant Women are Leading Locally in France, Spain & beyond

Janina Pescinski, a Junior Research Fellow at UNU-GCM in their Female Agency, Mobility and Sociocultural Change programme, has contributed to the UNU Gender Full Spectrum blog series with an article on how female migrants can have a voice in local politics and challenge the divide between formal and informal politics by enacting their universal human rights to assembly, association and expression in the public sphere.

"Achieving the gender SDGs: the OECD Development Centre's work on social norms, gender statistics and transformative policy making" is a lecture given by Keiko Nowacka on Thursday, 9 February at 12:00, in the National Museum’s lecture hall. Keiko is the second lecturer in the UNU-GEST & RIKK 2017 Spring Lecture Series.
