The GEST programme is hosted at the School of Humanities at the University of Iceland. The University of Iceland was founded on 17 June 1911 and is the oldest, and largest university in Iceland. It has five academic schools, each comprised of a number of faculties, and it operates around 40 research institutes. The University offers a variety of academic programmes on undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. Currently, the number of students is about 15,000, with the number of international students steadily increasing.
The Rector of the University of Iceland is Jón Atli Benediktsson, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
