Barbershop for Gender Equality
On February 14 the Permanent Delegation of Iceland to UNESCO, UNESCO Social and Human Sciences Sector & the UNESCO Gender Division hosted a Barbershop workshop for gender equality with the theme „Act like a man, Act like a woman.“ During the event, GRÓ GEST academic coordinator and project manager Dr Thomas Brorsen Smidt presented the GEST programme and GEST alumna of 2022, Ankita Bhat and GEST fellow of 2023, Nomore junior Mutsengi, contributed as discussion facilitators.

Teaching Gender to Youth in Uganda: GRÓ GEST and Pangea Collaboration

Announcement of MSc and PhD Scholarships recipients
The evaluation of the applications received from former Fellows for GTP Scholarships for MSc and PhD studies in Iceland has now been carried out. There were 17 valid applications for MSc studies and 8 for the PhD studies, which shows the continuous enthusiasm for geothermal studies in Iceland.

GRÓ LRT visit to Lesotho
Last week, Dr Sjöfn Vilhelmsdóttir, Director of GRÓ LRT, and Dr Ása L Aradóttir, Professor at the Agricultural University of Iceland (AUI) and key lecturer with GRÓ LRT, visited Lesotho. The main purpose of the visit was to meet with representatives of ministries, government agencies, and organisations working in the field of ecosystem restoration and sustainable land management; to interview candidates for the GRÓ LRT annual six-month training in Iceland; and to visit the National University of Lesotho.

New member on the GRÓ GTP studies board
Dr. María Sigríður Guðjónsdóttir, associate professor at Reykjavík University became the latest member of the studies board at GRÓ GTP at the last studies board meeting. She is taking over the Geothermal Utilisation specialisation from Dr. Páll Valdimarsson who has been a board member since 2002.
