ELD guest lecturer at GRÓ LRT
Dr Richard Thomas, the Scientific Coordinator of the Economics of Land Degradation (ELD) Initiative, delivered a two-day course on the economics of land dynamics as part of the six-month training programme at GRÓ LRT this week. In his lectures, Dr Thomas introduced the ELD approach and methodology leading to a cost-benefit analysis of sustainable land management options.
This was Dr Thomas's sixth time contributing to the GRÓ LRT programme as a guest lecturer, and his second time delivering lectures on the ELD framework. In addition to this collaboration with ELD, GRÓ LRT partnered with ELD in 2021 to develop and deliver a five-day training course in Ethiopia.
The ELD Initiative is a global initiative established in 2011 by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the European Commission. The initiative works toward making the economics of land degradation an integral part of policy strategies and decision-making by increasing the political and public awareness of the costs and benefits of land. The GRÓ LRT team expresses its gratitude to the ELD Initiative for its continued collaboration and for providing the GRÓ LRT fellows with the opportunity to learn about the economic aspects of land dynamics.
