This week, the GRÓ LRT fellows visited the headquarters of the Soil Conservation Service of Iceland (SCSI) in Gunnarsholt, South Iceland. During the visit, the fellows gained valuable insights into SCSI's work, operations, and the agency's rich history.

The fellows had the opportunity to explore various facilities and experimental areas utilized by SCSI at their headquarters. They engaged with numerous SCSI staff members who shared details about the agency's diverse projects, including wetland restoration, bank erosion prevention, grazing studies, and carbon research.

Additionally, the fellows visited the SCSI visitor centre, Sagnagarður, which provides a comprehensive narrative of Iceland's land degradation, along with the captivating tale of land restoration and soil stabilization spanning over the past century – or since SCSI was founded in 1907.

The Soil Conservation Service was instrumental in establishing the GRÓ LRT programme, which was launched on SCSI's centennial anniversary in 2007. We thank SCSI for their dedication and continued partnership.
