United Nations Secretary General visits UNU training programmes in Iceland
Recently, Mr Ban Ki-moon, UN´s Secretary General attended a meeting with representatives from the four UNU training programmes in Iceland – the Land Restoration, Geothermal, Fisheries and Gender Equality training programmes. The meeting took place at the National Museum of Iceland and the UNU-LRT Director, Dr Hafdis Hanna Aegisdotttir, introduced the activities and missions of the four respective programmes and how they meet the challenges presented in the newly adopted United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Ban Ki-moon meets with the UNU Iceland Programmes
Mr Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, attended the Arctic Circle conference in Reykjavík last weekend and requested the opportunity to meet with the UNU Programmes in Iceland.

The closing ceremony of the 38th annual session of the UNU-GTP was held on October 7, 2016, with 34 UNU Fellows graduating from the six month specialized courses.

United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon visits Iceland
The staff of the UNU-GEST programme met with the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, in Iceland on Saturday 8th October. UNU-GEST Director, Dr. Irma Erlingsdóttir, underlined the emphasis of gender equality issues as an essential part of the sustainable development agenda and as a precondition for its successful implementation and social justice in general.

On Saturday, October 8, 2016, the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, attended a seminar given by the UNU programs in Iceland on their work. The UNU programmes described how they address the challenges presented in the newly adopted Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
