Human Development Report 2016 ‘Human Development for Everyone’ Launch event in Iceland on 24th March.
In past decades, there have been significant gains in human development levels in almost every country; but millions of people have not benefited from this progress. Who has been left behind and why? The Human Development Report 2016 looks into these two questions. It identifies substantial barriers to development and recognizes that in every society certain groups are far more likely to suffer disadvantages than others.
The report also looks to what societies should do to advance human development for everyone. It sets forward policy recommendations at the national level and also looks at ways in which the global development landscape – particularly multilateral organizations – could be made more effective in the fight to leave no one behind and achieve the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's).
After attending the official launch of the Report happening in Stockholm, Sweden on 21 March, Dr. Selim Jahan, editor-in-chief of the 2016 Human Development Report (HDR) "Human Development for Everyone" and Director of the UNDP Human Development Report Office, will be in Iceland in order to introduce the 2016 HDR to the Icelandic context. He will discuss the main findings and conclusions of the report with a focus on two main questions: Who has been left out and why?
Following the presentation will be a panel with two Icelandic experts in the field of Human Development which will discuss the findings in relation to Icelandic reality.
