UNU-GEST former fellow Laureen Karayi (UWONET) from Uganda WEE Leadership Awards 2017 winner!

 

UNU-GEST former fellow, Laureen Karayi Nabimanya​, Programme Coordinator Uganda Women's Network (UWONET)​, is one of the WINNERS of the prestigious WEE Leadership Awards 2017 by Oxfam​ Knowledge Hub on Women’s Economic Empowerment in Agriculture.

Laureen has been an exceptional champion towards the advancement of women’s empowerment by leading a ground-breaking advocacy campaign with the Government of Uganda towards the increasement of public investment to support unpaid care work.

Laureen has been selected among 43 inspiring individuals from across 32 countries who presented their nominations. Laureen has been awarded for her strong engagement to tackle discriminatory practices and to challenge negative social norms, in addition to her capacity to lead and give visibility to her initiative.
