Two new employees
The Fisheries Training Program has recently added two new employees to its staff; Julie Ingham joined the program in May and Stefán Úlfarsson at the beginning of August.

Visit from Indonesia
On August 10th, our program was visited by a high-level delegation from the Republic of Indonesia. It was led by the vice speaker of the Indonesian parliament, Dr. Agus Hermanto. They were greeted by Mr. Thor Asgeirsson, the UNU-FTP deputy director. The two sides discussed some important topics of mutual interest.

Kick Off meeting with UNU-FTP and partners in FarFish, EU Horizon 2020 project
UNU-FTP is partnering in an EU Horizon 2020 project, FarFish, relating to improving the sustainability of EU fishing outside European waters. Within the project, the UNU-FTP is leading work related to capacity development and dissemination. The project launched last week with a Kick-Off meeting hosted by one of the project partners, CETMAR in Vigo, Spain.

UNU-FTP announces voluntary commitments at UN Oceans Conference on SDG 14
This week, UNU-FTP is participating in the high-level United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development, convening at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The conference aims to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14.

UNU-FTP fellow Godfrey Kawooya Kubiriza from Uganda will defend his PhD thesis entitled “The effects of dietary lipid oxidation on farmed fish” on June 15, 2017 at the University of Iceland Main Building at 13:00.
