Too Big to Ignore: UNU-FTP announces guest lecturer, Dr. Ratana Chuenpagdee
UNU-FTP is pleased to announce our distinguished guest lecturer Dr. Ratana Chuenpagdee, who will give a series of lectures at the Marine Research Institute February 1-3. The lectures are open to the public. Dr. Chunpagdee will focus on management issues in small scale fisheries, one of the most challenging "wicked problems" in our field.

UNU-FTP and UNU-GEST present research on Gender Analysis at Social Science Conference
Joint research efforts of UNU-Gender Equality Studies Training Programme (GEST), UNU- Fisheries Training Programme (FTP) and Matís were presented at the Þjóðarspegillinn Conference in Social Sciences held at the University of Iceland on October 30th.

Congratulations to UNU fellow, Dr. Cyprian Ogombe Odoli
On Thursday, October 22, UNU-FTP fellow and scholarship recipient Cyprian Ogombe Odoli successfully defended his doctoral thesis in food science at the University of Iceland. His project title was "Drying and smoking of capelin and sardine - the influence on physiochemical properties and consumer acceptance." Dr. Odoli did his doctoral work at Matis in Reykjavik and the Kenyan Marine & Fisheries Research Institute in Mombasa through support of the United Nations University.

UNU-FTP fellows reunite at World Seafood Congress
Through sponsorship of the UNU-FTP, several former fellows are presenting at the World Seafood Congress this week in Grimsby, United Kingdom. The World Seafood Congress brings together a global audience of seafood processors and importers, academia, public and private organisations, fish inspectors and government. This is an excellent forum for UNU-FTP fellows to actively participate in global fisheries issues, and share their expertise while expanding their international networks.

Former UNU fellow appointed to Director position in Uganda
Former UNU-FTP fellow and scholarship recipient, Taabu Anthony Munyaho, has recently been selected for the Director position at the National Fisheries Resources Research Institute (NaFIRI) in Uganda.
