Official visit to the UNU-GTP from Rwanda

On Tuesday the 16th of June the UNU-GTP hosted an official visit by the Minister of Energy of Rwanda H.E. Albert Butare and the Ambassador of Rwanda to England H.E. Claver Gatete. The delegation came to discuss possibilities in geothermal in Rwanda and was introduced to The National Energy Authority of Iceland, Iceland GeoSurvey and the UNU-GTP. The delegation was assisted by current UNU-Fellow from Rwanda Uwera Rutagarama and Icelandic resident from Rwanda, Augustin Dufatanye.

Yearbook 2008 available online

Yearbook 2008 is now available online. The book containins research reports by UNU-Fellows in 2008. 80% of the reports are based on projects in the respective countries or alternatively on projects in Iceland where the geothermal conditions in the respective countries are taken into concideration. MSc defence by Roberto Renderros

UNU-GTP MSc student Roberto Renderos, from El Salvador, defended his MSc thesis etitled "Carbon dioxide fixation by calcite and diffusive degassing in the Southern region of the Berlin geothermal system, El Salvador", Monday June 8, 2009. The defence was held at the University of Iceland, Askja, Room 131. The supervisor on the MSc project was Halldór Ármannsson, and the external examiner was Sigurður Reynir Gíslason.

MSc defence by Mulugeta Asaye Adale

UNU-GTP MSc student Mulugeta Asaye Adale, from Ethiopia, was defending his MSc thesis etitled "Evaluation of Maintenance Management through Benchmarking in Geothermal Power Plants", Thursday May 28, 2009. The defence was held at the University of Iceland. The supervisor on the MSc project was Magnús Thór Jónsson, and the external examiner was Geir Thorolfsson form Sudurnes Regional Heating Corporation.
