The contract gives outstanding Fellows who have finished the Six Month Training Programme at UNU-GTP, the opportunity to further their studies by enrolling in the MSc programme at RU.

The 35th session of the UNU-GTP

The 35th session of the UNU-GTP opened on Tuesday 23rd of April. The Director, Dr Ingvar B. Friðleifsson, lead the opening ceremony and gave a presentation about the work of the United Nations University and the UNU Prorammes in Iceland and their establishment.

M.Eng defence by Luis Alonso Aguirre Lopes

On Tuesday the 9th of April at 14:00 in room 147 in VR-II at the University of Iceland, Luis Alonso Aguirre Lopes will defend his M.Eng thesis, titled: "Modelling and Stability Analysis of Berlin Geothermal Power Plant in El Salvador". His supervisor is Magni Þór Pálsson. With him in the commitee is Ólöf Helgadóttir. The external examiner is Ragnar Kristjánsson. Everyone's welcome to attend.

Short Course V on Conceptual Modelling of Geothermal Systems in El Salvador, held in El Salvador 24 February - 2 March 2013

The annual “UN Millennium Development Goals” Short Course in El Salvador was held in February 24 – March 2, 2013. The topic of the course was “Conceptual Modelling of Geothermal Systems” which drew a lot of interest. The course was attended by 61 participants from 12 countries all over Latin America and the Caribbean, including 5 Central American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua), 4 South American countries (Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru), 2 Caribbean islands (Dominica and Nevis), and Mexico.

The first UNU-GTP doctoral graduate

On Friday the 15th of February 2013, Pacifica F. A. Ogola from Kenya, graduated from the University of Iceland with a PhD in Environmental and Natural Resources. She defended her thesis "The Power to Change: Creating lifeline and mitigation-adaptation opportunities through geothermal energy utilisation" and is the first UNU-GTP Fellow to graduate with a PhD and also the first student from Africa to get a doctoral degree from the University of Iceland.
