Release of Geothermal Training in Iceland 2013

The UNU-GTP yearbook "Geothermal Training in Iceland 2013" has been released online and is now available for download on-line under publications.

Annual Visiting Lecturer at the UNU-GTP 2014

The visiting lecturer of UNU-GTP 2014 is the reservoir engineer Dr. Malcolm Grant from New Zealand. Dr. Grant holds a doctoral degree in applied mathematics from MIT and has been involved in various research and management projects and has worked as a private consultant since 1994. He has been involved in assessment and development of 76 geothermal fields in 14 countries. Dr. Grant is among the most prestigious scientists in the field of geothermal reservoir engineering and has published many papers in that field. He is the senior author of the widely used textbook Geothermal Reservoir Engineering. Dr. Grant will give lectures in Víðgelmir, Orkugarður, Grensásvegur 9, on August 25th-29th beginning at 9:00. Each lecture will take approximately one hour plus discussion afterwards.

Short course IX to be held in Kenya in Nov. 2014

United Nations University Geothermal Training Programme (UNU-GTP) in Iceland, Kenya Electricity Generating Company Ltd. (KenGen), and Geothermal Development Company (GDC) in Kenya will be hosting “Short Course IX on Exploration for Geothermal Resources”, to be held at Lake Bogoria Hotel and at Lake Naivasha Country Club, Naivasha, Kenya, 2-23 November, 2014.

Home countries seminar

The annual seminar on the status of geothermal energy research, development and application in the home countries of the UNU Fellows will be held on Thursday 5 June 2014 at Orkustofnun in Víðgelmir. The seminar starts at 09:00 and is open to all intertested parties.

Workshop for Geothermal Development Donors in Iceland

The UNU-GTP held a Workshop for Geothermal Development Donors in Iceland on May 27-28. The workshop was financed by the Icelandic International Development Agency (ICEIDA) and was organized as a follow-up to a Donors Collaboration Meeting jointly hosted by the African Union and ICEIDA. The meeting and the workshop were attended by 48 participants representing 8 African countries and 14 donor institutions, as well as Icelandic entitites. The workshop, which was held at the Blue Lagoon and Reykjavik Energy headquarters, provided a general overview of various aspects of geothermal exploration and development and included an excursion to geothermal fields and utilization facilities in the Reykjanes peninsula.
