The UNU-GTP is currently conducting a Short Course on Well Design and Geothermal Drilling Technology in Ethiopia for selected employees of the Geological Survey of Ethiopia and Ethiopian Electric Power.  The short course is financed by the Icelandic International Development Agency and the Nordic Development Fund as part of the Geothermal Exploration Project in East Africa.  The course started on January 12 and has a duration of two weeks, covering the basics of well design and geothermal drilling technology.  The first week was conducted in Addis Ababa, while the second has been carried out by Lake Ziway, allowing for a field visit to the Aluto Langano geothermal field.  The short course is attended by 30 participants from the two companies/institutions and lecturing is in the hands of ÍSOR – Iceland GeoSurvey and Mannvit.
