Guest lecturer teaching rangeland ecology and management
This week UNU-LRT welcomed this year’s international guest lecturer, Dr Patrick Shaver. He gave a series of lectures on ecological processes and grazing management principles; land health, inventory and monitoring; and grazing management schemes and case studies. Dr Shaver also gave an open lecture at the National Museum of Iceland on the management history and condition of rangelands in USA and how rangeland condition today is historically tied to policy and actions in the past.

Workshop for Decision Makers and Short Course II on Geothermal Resource Exploration in Romania
The Workshop on Utilization of Geothermal Resources for Decision Makers from Romania was held in Oradea, Romania, on May 27-28, in cooperation with the University of Oradea. The workshop covered the basics of geothermal development from exploration stages to utilization and management. Lecturing was in the hands of Mr. Lúdvík S. Georgsson, Director of UNU-GTP, Dr. Árni Ragnarsson, UNU-GTP instructor and expert at ÍSOR, and Prof. Marcel Rosca, Vice Rector of the Universtiy of Oradea.

Short Course: Value Addition and Raw Material Handling in Bangladesh
A new short course, entitled "Quality Management And Value Addition in Fisheries in Bangladesh" was developed through cooperation with the UNU-FTP, Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation (BSFF) and Matís and was held at the Marine Fisheries Academy in Chittagong, Bangladesh May 8-13, 2016.

Adding Peacekeepers to the Debates of Critical Liberal Peacebuilding
Anne Flaspöler, Postdoctoral Researcher at the EDDA Center of Excellence, has recently published the article “Adding Peacekeepers to the Debates of Critical Liberal Peacebuilding: New Insights from the Perspective of Peacekeeping Training in Africa” in the academic journal Peacebuilding.

Congratulations to the UNU-GEST fellows of 2016
The United Nations University Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme (UNU-GEST) celebrated the graduation of 15 fellows with a post-graduate diploma in international gender studies from Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Palestine, Uganda and South Africa.
