Fellow M. M. Mahbub Alam to defend PhD thesis at University of Iceland
On Thursday the 8th of September M. M. Mahbub Alam will defend his Ph.D. thesis in Biology. The thesis is titled: Origin and population structure of major prawn and shrimp species in Bangladesh.

UNU-GEST and the External Academic Relation Office at Birzeit University invite students enrolled in MA/MSc programmes at Birzeit University to apply for a joint Erasmus+ and UNU-GEST fellowships in the 2017 Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in International Gender Studies at the University of Iceland.

UNU-GTP Fellows thinking of the environment
Zoltan Békés, a UNU Fellow from Hungary, collected cooking oil from his kitchen in his residential apartment in Reykjavík since his arrival for the Six Month Training in April this year.

UNU-GEST has published a directory of former fellows on its website. This allows alumni members and other interested to search the directory by country, specialization and the year of graduation.

Fellows on field excursion
During the six-month training in Iceland, the UNU-LRT fellows go on two different field excursions. Last week the fellows undertook their second field excursion, this time to the West and North Iceland. The focus was on land degradation in Iceland, implementation of restoration work, restoration vs. reclamation and an introduction to Icelandic cultural background through stories and historical sites.
