UNU-GEST Director and Deputy Minister of Women´s Affair in Palestine discuss future cooperation
The discussions were on how these two entities could join forces to advance the mission of the ministry and the Palestinian government in their efforts to mainstream gender across sectors and most notably on the issue of gender-responsive budgeting.
Mr. Al-Khatib stressed the will of the Palestinian government to support and empower women in all aspects of life and how the ministry has focused on the preparation of strategic plans across sectors to address violence against women and the economic and political advancement of women in Palestine.
According to Ma´an News Agency, the Minister stressed the importance of a good and fruitful cooperation between the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and all key actors who support the ministry and its staff, especially the staff working in the gender unit.
Dr. Erlingsdottir highlighted how the UNU-GEST diploma programme has been beneficial for alumni fellows and the work to pursue gender equality in Palestine. In addition, she introduced the relevant training programmes that the UNU-GEST provides on diverse gender issues, including gender responsive budgeting and combating violence against women.
