The closing ceremony of the 36th annual session of the UNU-GTP was held on October 17, 2014, with 29 UNU Fellows graduating from the six month specialized courses. 

The Fellows came from 14 countries: Bolivia (1), China (1), Djibouti (2), Ecuador (1), El Salvador (2), Ethiopia (2), Iran (1), Kenya (11), Papua New Guinea (1), Portugal (2), Rwanda (2), St. Vincent and the Grenadines (1), Sudan (1), and Tanzania (1). Five new countries were added this year, Bolivia, Ecuador, Portugal, Sudan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. 

The Fellows were trained in: Borehole Geology (4), Geothermal Utilization (5), Reservoir Engineering (6), Drilling Technology (5), Chemistry of Thermal Fluids (7), and Environmental Science (2).
 
During 1979-2014, 583 scientists and engineers from 58 countries have completed the annual six month courses. They have come from countries in Asia (37%), Africa (36%), Central and Eastern Europe (11%), Latin America (15%), and Oceania (1%). Amongst these have been 118 women (20%). 

At the ceremony speeches were given by Lúðvik S. Georgsson, director of the UNU-GTP, a representative of the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Guðni Ágústsson, the Director General of the National Energy Authority, and Daniel Gustavo Villarroel Camacho from Bolivia on behalf of the graduating class.
