Alumni event in Maputo
UNU-GEST hosted an alumni event in Maputo on December 13 at the Mozambican Ministry of Gender, Children and Social action. The event brought together thirteen of the fourteen Mozambique alumni as well as two of the three fellows that will join the UNU-GEST academic programme in January 2018

External evaluation of UNU-LRT
In 2017, UNU-LRT went through a comprehensive external evaluation. The evaluation also included the other UNU training programmes in Iceland on geothermal, fisheries and gender equality. The evaluation was carried out by the Scandinavian consultancy company NIRAS. The recently published evaluation report was very positive and shows that UNU-LRT and the other three UNU training programmes are highly relevant to the trained specialists (the fellows) and their institutions as well as for the Icelandic development cooperation strategy.

Director Ludvik Georgsson awarded the Victor de Sola award in El Salvador
In early December the Director of UNU-GTP, Ludvik S. Georgsson was given the honorary Victor de Sola award by the national energy company LaGeo in El Salvador. The award is given annually in honorary recognition to a person selected by a competent committee from a list of people who have made extraordinary and lasting contributions to the development of geothermal energy in El Salvador.

UNU-GEST hosts Malawi alumni event in Lilongwe
UNU-GEST hosted an alumni event in Lilongwe last week that brought together nine of the seventeen former UNU-GEST fellows from Malawi. The alumni event sparked the formalisation of the UNU-GEST Malawi Alumni Association, which will be taken forward by former fellows in Malawi.
