RIKK & UNU-GEST Joint Lecture Series: Third Lecturer, Dr. Zilka Spahić-Šiljak

Dr. Zilka Spahić-Šiljak, Associate Professor, is the third lecturer in the 2019 RIKK – Institute for Gender, Equality and Difference & UNU-GEST – United Nations University Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme – lecture series during spring term 2019. Her lecture is titled: “Victim or Survivor? Choosing Identity and Being Acknowledged after Wartime Sexual Violence in Bosnia”, and will take place on Thursday, 7th of February, from 12:00 to 13:00.

Dr. Henri Myrttinen, Head of Gender and Peacebuilding with International Alert, is the second lecturer in the 2019 RIKK – Institute for Gender, Equality and Difference & UNU-GEST – United Nations University Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme – lecture series during spring term 2019. His lecture is titled: “Broadening the Scope – The Risks and Benefits of Integrating Masculinities and LGBTIQ into the Women, Peace and Security Agenda”, and will take place on Thursday, 24th of January, from 12:00 to 13:00.

Last week, Dr. Edda Björk Þórðardóttir Postdoctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Iceland opened the 2019 RIKK & UNU-GEST Lecture Series with her presentation “Trauma and its Health-Related Effects” at the National Museum of Iceland.

UNU-GEST Welcomes the Fellows of 2019

Today, the United Nations University Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme (UNU-GEST) welcomed its 12th cohort to the postgraduate diploma programme in International Gender Studies. This semester, UNU-GEST has the pleasure of hosting 23 Fellows - seven men and sixteen women, from thirteen countries: Afghanistan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Kosovo, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Palestine, Serbia, and Uganda. The Fellows represent experts and postgraduate students from various professional fields including universities, local governments, public information, police, and legal assistance.

World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Report for 2018 Released - Iceland Sits at the Top

On December 18th the World Economic Forum (WEF) released the annually published Global Gender Report for 2018. For the tenth year in a row, Iceland sits at the top of the index, followed by Norway, Sweden and Finland.

UNU-GEST and the Icelandic Red Cross sign a Memorandum of Understanding

Last week, the United Nations University Gender Equality Studies and Training (UNU-GEST) Programme and the Icelandic Red Cross signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU expresses an interest in collaborating in developing gender equality projects and sharing of expertise in the field of humanitarian and developing work, in Iceland and internationally.
