Last week, GEST alumni in Uganda participated in a dialogue with Ambassador Unnur Orradóttir Ramette, as a part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

The international conference “Reykjavík Global Forum: Women Leaders“ took place this week. The UNU-GEST contributed two events related to the Reykjavík Global Forum: a formal session of Leader Talks in Harpa, as the Icelandic operational partner of Nordic Women Mediators in partnership with the and the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iceland, and at a side event organized by the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute, where Dr. Irma Erlingsdóttir, director of UNU-GEST, participated in a panel on “Women, Leadership and the Sustainability of Languages and Cultures”.

The RIKK and GEST lunchtime lecture series for spring 2020 is devoted to gender and climate change.

This year, UNU-GEST is co-hosting with Höfði Reykjavík Peace Centre and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Höfði's annual Peace Conference, The Imagine Forum. The conference takes place at Veröld at the University of Iceland on October 10, 2019 and the main theme this year is Women for Peace.

GEST has awarded Chikondi Manyungwa a Ph.D. grant for her research project on the participation of women in the fish value chain and the value chain governance in Malawi, focusing on the villages Msaka by Lake Malawi and Kachulu by Lake Chilwa.

This September an international conference that explores the #MeToo movement will be held in Reykjavík.
