UNU-GEST Welcomes the Fellows of 2019
Today, the United Nations University Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme (UNU-GEST) welcomed its 12th cohort to the postgraduate diploma programme in International Gender Studies. This semester, UNU-GEST has the pleasure of hosting 23 fellows - seven men and sixteen women, from thirteen countries: Afghanistan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Kosovo, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Palestine, Serbia, and Uganda. The Fellows represent experts and postgraduate students from various professional fields including local governments, public information, police, and legal assistance.
The day started with a breakfast meeting, followed by introductions, and an orientation programme. The postgraduate diploma programme (30 ECTS) is five months long and runs during the spring semester (January-May) every year. The programme’s first session is taking place tomorrow and the graduation date is scheduled for 24 May 2019.
The UNU-GEST programme focuses on the promotion of gender equality and women's empowerment. This year the postgraduate diploma programme consists of seven modules; five are mandatory modules and two are elective modules. The modules are interdisciplinary and include practical tools and theory, aiming at strengthening the Fellows’ capacity to implement and develop gender sensitive projects and research in their home countries. The modules are: Theories and Concepts of Gender; Gender and Development; Gender, Violence and Security; Gender, Environment and Climate Change; Gender, Health and Education (elective); Gender, Labour and Migration (elective); and Applied Final Project.
The UNU-GEST staff and faculty welcome the students, and look forward to a fruitful collaboration in 2019. Further information about the curriculum of the UNU-GEST postgraduate diploma programme is available here.
