UNU- GEST welcomes the class of 2017!

The United Nations University Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme (UNU-GEST) Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in International Gender Studies at the University of Iceland is welcoming eighteen fellows, twelve women and six men, during the spring semester of 2017.

The diploma progamme (30 ECTS) runs annually from January until May. This semester  fellows come from twelve countries: Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Palestine, Lebanon, Uganda, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Nigeria, Jamaica and Tunisia. The group counts experienced individuals from a rich variety of backgrounds, such as universities, UN entities government bodies, and human rights and civil society organisations.

In their studies, the fellows are exposed to an interdisciplinary curriculum, which aims at enhancing the understanding of the structures and mechanisms needed to promote gender equality and advance women‘s empowerment. The goal is to strengthen the capacity of  fellows – and the institutions and organisations they represent – to develop and implement gender responsive projects and policies in their home countries.

This year, UNU-GEST is hosting the largest group of fellows since the establishment of the diploma programme; 68 fellows have graduated from UNU-GEST to date. Further information about the UNU-GEST post-graduate diploma programme at the University of Iceland is available here

A warm welcome to the UNU-GEST fellows of 2017!
