The expert meeting included ten gender and environment experts who convened in Iceland to finalise the GGEO, due to be published at United Nations Environment Assembly in May 2016. The GGEO is the first comprehensive and integrated assessment about gender and the environment and will provide a comprehensive overview of the linkages between gender and environment in the contexts of SDGs and 2030 Development agenda. Its key objective is to inform decision-making by describing the interplay between human activities and the environment from a gender perspective. Besides presenting an overview of the state and trends of the gender-environment nexus, the GGEO focuses on policy options and solutions-oriented responses, supported by highlighted best practices and inspiring examples. A lecturer at the UNU-GEST programme, Prof. Joni Seager is the coordinating lead author of this first UNEP global assessment of gender and environment.
