The GEST Fellows Invited to the Icelandic President's Residence

The GRÓ GEST 2022 cohort was invited to visit the Icelandic president, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson at Bessastaðir, the residence of the Icelandic president. The cohort was welcomed by the president of Iceland, who acknowledged the fellows' dedication and hard work towards advancing gender equality. Two fellows spoke on behalf of the GRÓ GEST fellows, Mohamed Altamash Khan from India and Maame Amoa-Marfo from Ghana. They thanked the president for the invitation and introduced the composition of the 2022 GRÓ GEST cohort, their professional expertise and ambitions. Furthermore, they reflected on their experience in Iceland, and shared the fellows' aims for working towards gender equality upon returning home to their communities. In addition to the fellows speaking, Robert Chiwamba, a fellow from Malawi recited a poem, dedicated to his experience in Iceland, and Aarti Lila Ram presented and gave the president an ajrak, a fabric scarf from Sindh in Pakistan, a sign of respect and honor. The visit was concluded with coffee, tea, and kleinur, before the fellows returned to their GRÓ GEST final assignments, which are due in few days.
