GRÓ GEST PhD fellow arrives to Iceland
GRÓ GEST had the pleasure of welcoming PhD fellow, Stella Tereka, to Iceland last Friday. Stella, GEST alumna of 2016, was among the first fellows to receive a full scholarship from GRÓ GEST for her PhD Studies at the University of Iceland. Stella’s PhD position is a collaboration between the GRÓ GEST programme at the University of Iceland and Makerere University, Uganda, where the PhD committee includes experts from both institutions.
Stella is enrolled in the interdisciplinary doctoral programme in Environment and Natural Resources where her focus is on gender and climate change. Her research examines the gendered dimensions of climate change and aims to identify effective approaches and strategies to support gender transformative climate proofing in agriculture and natural resources sectors in Uganda. She has completed the household survey data and is currently writing her first paper where she looks at gender perspectives on rural household water governance in the times of climate change.
Stella will spend the fall semester at the University of Iceland where she is enrolled in several post-graduate seminars. She conducts her research under the joint supervision of Dr. Jón Geir Pétursson, Professor in Environment and Natural Resources, University of Iceland, Dr. Auður H. Ingólfsdóttir, GRÓ GEST faculty member, and Dr. Patrick Byakagaba, Associate Professor at Makerere University.
The GRÓ GEST team expresses its warm welcome to Stella and we hope that her stay in Iceland will be fruitful!
