Fellows of 2018 class in certification process for project management associates

In spring semester 2018, all fellows in the post-graduate diploma programme in international gender studies at UNU-GEST and the University of Iceland, a D-level certification as a project management associate is a part of the curriculum. The program is a part of UNU-GEST module 2, Practical Tools for Gender Sensitive Projects, of which project management has been a core focus. This initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Icelandic Association of Project Managment.

IPMA Level D, Certified Project Management Associate, is an exam-based assessment of a wide range of project management knowledge. Certified Project Management Associate is an internationally recognised entry-level qualification in the area of project management with a certificate valid for five years.

Dr. Helgi Þór Ingason, a Professor at Reykjavik University has held preparatory sessions for the class. Dr. Ingason holds a credential of Stanford Certified Project Manager (SCPM), a PhD in Process Metallurgy, and MSc and CS in Mechanical- and industrial engineering. His research focuses on project management, quality management, system dynamics, energy infrastructure and careers, but he has a long-standing experience of teaching project management. The certification process is as follows:

All fellows submit a self-assessment, CV and an application form which is assessed, and take an exam which tests core competencies in three areas of project management: technical competences, behavioural competences and contextual competences. Successful candidates receive an internationally recognized certificate valid for five years, which serves as a tool for supporting their professional development and supplements the project management skills aquired in the UNU-GEST programme.
