Dr. Giti Chandra opens this terms RIKK lecture series
On Thursday, 06th of September, Dr. Giti Chandra opened this terms lecture series organized by RIKK – Institute for Gender, Equality and Difference with her lecture “The Anonymous Feminist: Agency, Trauma, and Personhood in the #MeToo Movement. This terms lecture series is dedicated to women’s revolution against harassment and violence in an endeavor to analyze the incentives, nature and consequences of the MeToo movement from different viewpoints. 
Chandra’s lecture focussed on one of the more controversial aspects of the MeToo movement, the production of lists naming perpetrators anonymously. Individuals calling out their harassers anonymously are often described either as weak or malicious. They are perceived as hiding behind their anonymity in order to wage vendettas against the named perpetrators, or as weak and faceless, defined by and forever trapped in their victimhood. Contextualising this discussion within trauma studies, Dr. Chandra’s lecture discussed the implications of anonymity for notions of agency and victimhood pointing towards an alternative, more inclusively feminist, way of thinking of anonymity and personhood.
Dr. Chandra is an affiliated researcher at UNU-GEST. She is currently working on a two book projects: a book length study titled “In Visible Texts: Hidden and Spectacularised Violence in Colonial India and Africa” as well as an edited volume on the MeToo movement.
