United Nations University Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme (UNU-GEST) is a research and teaching institution based at the University of Iceland, Reykjavik. The mission of UNU-GEST is to use a multidisciplinary approach to promote gender equality and social justice in developing, conflict and post-conflict countries through high-quality, collaborative, and policy-relevant research; strengthening capacity of professionals, scholars and organizations; and create a platform for transnational dialogue, knowledge production and exchange. UNU-GEST became part of the United Nations University network in May 2013 which encompasses 13 research and training institutes and programmes located in 12 countries around the world. Further, UNU-GEST relies on a global network of scholars and collaborates with institutions in different parts of the world.

UNU-GEST strategic research programme is based on three interrelated and interdisciplinary research themes, addressing gender equality and social justice at its core:

  • Sustainability
  • Human security
  • Societal transitions

UNU-GEST offers good research facilities within a vibrant academic community in Iceland. UNU-GEST´s intent is to build on its existing strengths by attracting young scholars with outstanding potential to work with us on innovative research projects that will make an original and significant contribution to gender equality and social justice.

We are therefore seeking to support high quality applications to the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions Individual Fellowships scheme.
