Agreement between UNU-GEST and Birzeit University on Student and Faculty Exchange and Academic Coope…

Through the Erasmus+ programme, Dr. Irma Erlingsdóttir, the Director of the UNU-GEST programme, spent a staff exchange week at Birzeit University last May/June. On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Birzeit University and the UNU-GEST programme was signed. Its purpose is to encourage exchange of students for advanced studies and research and the transfer of academic credits. It also stipulates the exchange of faculty and staff members for teaching and/or research assignments. In addition, it sets forth collaboration on the organization of symposiums, workshops, conferences and academic meetings and joint research projects and publishing.

The University of Birzeit was represented by Dr. Faisal Awadallah, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, who signed the memorandum together with Dr. Erlingsdóttir. At their meeting, they discussed the interdisciplinary nature of the UNU-GEST programme, which attracts students from different fields of study and the growing number of Palestinians who have graduated from the it. UNU-GEST has welcomed students from Palestine from its inception in 2009, with 22 Palestinian fellows having completed the studies programme.
