GEST Welcomes the 2021 Cohort
It was with a great pleasure that the GEST team welcomed its 2021 cohort to Iceland in August. The fellows arrived over a period of two weeks, and the teaching started on the 13th of August, after three days of orientation that was partially online. The 2021 cohort consists of twenty fellows from 15 countries. This year, for the first time, fellows from China, Egypt, Mexico, Mongolia, Namibia, and Nepal are joining the programme.

Beatrice Dossah, GRÓ LRT scholarship recipient, graduates from University of Iceland
Beatrice Dossah from Ghana and a former GRÓ LRT fellow (2017), graduated in June with an MSc in Environment and Natural Resources from the University of Iceland. After completing her six-month training in Iceland, she was accepted to a master's programme in Environment and Natural Resources, at the University of Iceland, in 2019 and granted a GRÓ LRT scholarship for post-graduate studies in Iceland.

GRÓ GEST facilitates Teaching Gender to Youth with Girls of A Feather, St. Lucia
GRÓ GEST had the pleasure of facilitating a two-day online version of the short course Teaching Gender to Youth, in partnership with Girls of A Feather in St. Lucia on 12-13 July.

Field excursion with climate change focus
This week GRÓ LRT fellows went on a three-day excursion to the south and southeast of Iceland. The focus was on climate change and its effects on ecosystems and societies. The fellows visited Visitor Centres of the Vatnajökull National Park and learned about the parks natural and cultural heritage. They walked up to the Skaftafellsjökull outlet glacier and observed how the glacier has retreated for last 100 years and how the rate of retreat and thinning has increased in the last decades.

Home country seminar of the GRÓ GTP Fellows
On Monday 21 June, the Fellows participating in the Six Month Training Programme will make a short presentation on geothermal development and utilisation in their home countries.
