New web site

Welcome to the new and improved website of the UNU-FTP. The main improvements are mainly in the "fellows" selection where users will have better overview of those who have finished the UNU-FTP. This web site enables observers to search our database of fellows according to lines of specialization, year, and/or country. As with most web sites we will strive to improving this new web site.

Annual visiting lecturer at the UNU-GTP 2009

This year, the annual UNU Visiting Lecturer is Wilfred A. Elders, Professor Emeritus of Geology from the University of California who has been involved in the Iceland Deep Drilling Programme in Krafla, North Iceland. Wilfred A. Elders will be giving a series of five lectures on "Applications of petrology to geothermics" from Thursday the 3rd to Friday the 4th of September, and Monday the 7th to Wednesday the 9th of September.

Release of "Geothermal training in Iceland 2008"

The yearbook "Geothermal training in Iceland 2008" has been released and sent out to former UNU-GTP Fellows, supervisors, scientific institutions and libraries.

The UNU-FTP group for 2009

The selection of the group that starts on September 14 2009 is finished. It is expected that 22 fellows from about 16 countries will arrive in Iceland for training in four specialty areas; Quality Management of Fish Handling and Processing, Fish Stock Assessment, Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries Policy and Planning. The Sustainable Aquaculture will be run at Holar University College in Skagafjordur in northern Iceland.

Reunion in Mongolia

During the visit of Ludvik S. Georgsson, the Deputy Director of the UNU-GTP, to Mongolia on June 22-28, seven of the eight former UNU Fellows in Mongolia joined for a dinner and reunion, making a memorable evening in Ulaan Baatar.

Visit to China

On June 20, during the visit of Ludvik S. Georgsson, the Deputy Director of the UNU-GTP, to China in June, the Icelandic Ambassador in Beijing, Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson hosted a reception for the former UNU Fellows in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, and other good friends of the Icelandic Embassy in Beijing, both Chinese and Icelandic.
