Short Bio

Hreiðar has BSc degrees in biology and marine biology from University of Iceland and a MSc degree in fisheries biology from University of British Columbia, Canada.

He is a former scientist at the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute in Iceland but has since 1999 been working at the University of Akureyri, first ass assistant lecturer but since 2021 as associate professor.

Hreiðar's research surrounds issues of marine ecology and utilization of marine resources. He is especially interested in the big picture changes brought on by ocean warming.

Since 2021 Hreiðar has been the head of GRÓ-FTP's fisheries policy and management line of specialisation.
