Description

Over the past one and a half week some good friends from the Pacific have been here in Iceland on a “Knowledge Exchange Visit” organised by GRÓ-FTP.

They are here through invitation of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the World Bank.

Altogether 15 specialists and policy makers from nine countries (Fiji, Kiribati, Palau, Marshall Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands, Samoa and Vanuatu), together with five World Bank staff and two from the Pacific Islands Forum Fishing Agency.

The guests were very interested in exchanging their experience and learning about the fisheries sector in Iceland.

Of special interest is the development of the fisheries management system, stakeholder cooperation and the supportive environment for investment, innovation, education and training.

The group arrived in Iceland early last week and will be heading back home over the next few days.

Part of the programme took place in and around Akureyri and was organised by the Faculty of Natural Resource Sciences at University of Akureyri and the Directorate of Fisheries.

A wrap up session was held at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
