GRÓ‘s work presented to Nordic UNESCO family
The work of GRÓ – Centre for Capacity development, sustainability and societal change, and in particular the four GRÓ training programmes on fisheries, gender equality, geothermal energy and land restoration, was presented to the Nordic UNESCO family at their annual meeting that took place in Hveragerði, Iceland, in the beginning of September.
At this annual meeting, Nordic National Commissions to UNESCO and the Permanent Delegations of the Nordic countries in Paris, meet to discuss priorities and their work at UNESCO. This time Iceland hosted the meeting, that took place in the town of Hveragerði on the Southcoast of Iceland.
GRÓ works under the auspices of UNESCO, as a so-called Category 2 Centre, so this meeting was a welcome opportunity to share information about the work of GRÓ and the cooperation with the wider UNESCO network. Nína Björk Jónsdóttir, Director General of GRÓ, presented the work of GRÓ and the four programmes, and dr. Irma Erlingsdóttir, Director of the GRÓ Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme, presented GRÓ GEST to explain in depth the programme and the research undertaken by the fellows.
Halla Tómasdóttir, President of Iceland, who took office on 1 August 2024, closed the Nordic UNESCO meeting, so the presentation was also an opportunity to discuss the work of GRÓ with the newly elected president of Iceland.
