GRÓ alumni gathered in Jakarta
On Thursday last week, GRÓ • Centre for Capacity Development, Sustainability and Societal Change and the Embassy of Iceland to Indonesia invited alumnus of the Geothermal Training Programme (GTP) and Fisheries Training Programme (FTP) to a reception in Jakarta. The reception was held in connection with the annual IIGCE Geothermal Conference, which was attended by representatives of five Icelandic companies and Business Iceland.
A large number of GRÓ alumni work within geothermal companies in Indonesia, and in their views the studies in Iceland have made an impact for the development of geothermal energy in the country. Stefán Haukur Jóhannesson, Iceland's Ambassador to Indonesia, and Ingimar G. Haraldsson, Deputy Director of the GTP, welcomed the guests and discussed, among other things, the strong ties between Iceland and Indonesia that have formed through the fellows of the GRÓ programmes.
Work is currently underway between the two countries on an updated Memorandum of Understanding on geothermal cooperation that was originally signed in 2008.
