Short Bio

Stefán Jón Hafsein is a well-known public figure as an author, media person, diplomat and politician. He has had a long career in development cooperation in Africa and with international organisation. From 2007 to 2016 he worked for  the Icelandic International Development Agency (ICEIDA) in Namibia, Malawy and Uganda. From 2016 to 2024 Stefán has worked for the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, first as ambassador to the UN Rome based agencies (FAO, WFP and IFAD) and after 2022 as a special envoy for ocean affairs..
