Conducted in 2014 in Nha Trang Vietnam on principles and practices of broodstock management. A total of forty-five participants from seventeen countries in Asia-Pacific and Africa attended. Organised in partnership with Network of Aquaculture Centre in Asia-Pacific (NACA), Nha Trang University Vietnam, Deakin University Australia and Fisheries Victoria Australia and Holar University Iceland.

A total of forty-five (45) participants from seventeen (17) countries in Asia-Pacific and Africa attended the 1st and the 2nd training course, of which twenty five (25) were fully or partially financially supported with the UNU-FTP fund, and thirty-seven (37) young teachers, researchers and students at Master and PhD level from Vietnam also participated in the training courses.
Participants considered that the training course was highly relevant and important, and timely addressed the issue of deteriorating broodstock quality which was believed to be one of the major constraints hampering further aquaculture development.
The United Nations University Fisheries Training Programme (UNU-FTP), Network of Aquaculture Centre in Asia-Pacific (NACA) and Nha Trang University jointly initiated a project on “Regional Training for Capacity Building on Finfish Broodstock Management in Aquaculture" in collaboration with Deakin University Australia and Fisheries Victoria Australia and Holar University Iceland in 2012.
The objective was to develop and test a training course on principles and practices of broodstock management, to hatchery managers and key in-service personnel associated with hatchery operations.
Two training courses, the 1st and 2nd regional training course on the same topic were conducted in 2013 and 2014 respectively in Nha Trang University, Vietnam. In total, some 80 professionals from 19 countries in Asia and Africa participated in these courses.
The training courses took a learner-centered approach, encouraging active participation of trainees in learning process, emphasizing practical experiences and problem solving skills of participants.
