New web site
Welcome to the new and improved website of the UNU-FTP. The main improvements are mainly in the "fellows" selection where users will have better overview of those who have finished the UNU-FTP. This
web site enables observers to search our database of fellows according to lines of specialization, year, and/or country. As with most web sites we will strive to improving this new web site.

The UNU-FTP group for 2009
The selection of the group that starts on September 14 2009 is finished. It is expected that 22 fellows from about 16 countries will arrive in Iceland for training in four specialty areas; Quality
Management of Fish Handling and Processing, Fish Stock Assessment, Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries Policy and Planning. The Sustainable Aquaculture will be run at Holar University College in
Skagafjordur in northern Iceland.

Dr. Tumi Tómasson returns from Sri Lanka
On July 1st Dr. Tumi Tomasson returns to the UNU-FTP as the programme director after spending 15 months as ICEIDA country
director in Sri Lanka. Mr. Thor Asgeirsson who has served as the programme director in the absence of Dr. Tomasson will return to his former post as Tumi's deputy.

Cooperation with the Arab Academy for Science Technology and Maritime Transport
Mr. Asgeirsson is now visiting Egypt for the first time and has he visited GAFRAD in Cairo and the Arab Academy which is run by the Arab League and is meant to train students from the Arab
countries in Maritimes affairs. The Academy is establishing a new faculty/college on fisheries with emphasis on processing and aquaculture and has sought assistance from the UNU-FTP in developing the
new faculty. Mr. Asgeirsson will return to Iceland on May 1st

Director on leave
Dr. Tumi Tomasson has temporarily taken a post in Sri Lanka as the country director for Icelandic International Development Agency (ICEIDA). Dr. Tomasson will be, as from April 1st
2008, on leave from UNU-FTP for 15 months and in the meantime his deputy, Mr. Thor Asgeirsson, will act as the programme director.

Visiting lecturer 2007
To honor the new line of specialization on aquaculture the visiting lecturer this year
is Prof. Sena S. De Silva the general director of NACA, the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific.
