Visit from PROBLUE
Recently GRÓ-FTP had a visit from the PROBLUE trust fund.
The guests were here in Iceland in connection with the annual meeting of the fund’s Partnership Council, which this time was hosted by the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
They were keen to learn about GRÓ-FTP’s mission as a capacity building programme.
PROBLUE is a multi-donor trust fund, housed at the World Bank, that supports the development of integrated, sustainable and healthy marine and coastal resources.
The fund is aligned with the World Bank’s goals of ending extreme poverty and increasing the income and welfare of the poor in a sustainable way.
Contributions to PROBLUE currently amount to just over US$200 million, with support from Australia, Canada, Denmark, the European Commission, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
As one of twelve donor partners, Iceland is a member of PROBLUE’s Partnership Council.
After welcoming the guests, the GRÓ-FTP director, Mary Frances Davidson, described the programme’s approach to capacity building in the fisheries sector of developing countries and the various tools it has at its disposal to carry it out.
One of the topics touched up on during the ensuing discussions was the possibility that GRÓ-FTP would provide training for World Bank staff engaged in fisheries projects.
