Visit from Indonesia
On August 10th, our program was visited by a high-level delegation from the Republic of Indonesia.
It was led by the vice speaker of the Indonesian parliament, Dr. Agus Hermanto, and comprised members of the parliament as well as representatives from the energy sector.
Honourable Mr. Yuwanto A. Putranto, the Indonesia ambassador to Iceland, was present.
The guests were greeted by Mr. Thor Asgeirsson, the UNU-FTP deputy director.
The two sides discussed some important topics of mutual interest:
Dr. Dadi Mar Kristofersson, Dean of the School of Social Sciences at the University of Iceland, gave an outline of the economic development of the Icelandic fishing industry.
Mr. Oddur Gunnarsson, Chief IP Officer at the Icelandic Food and Biotech R&D MATIS, deliberated on the role of research and innovation in the aquatic sector.
Then, Mr. Thor Asgeirsson discussed the role of the Fisheries Training Program in strengthening institutional capacity of its partner countries.
The meeting concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Mr. Thor Asgeirsson with panel members Dr. Tumi Tomasson, Dr. Dadi Mar Kristofersson, and Mr. Oddur Gunnarsson.
