Last week the Rector of the United Nations University, Dr. Konrad Osterwalder, paid a visit to Iceland. While here in Reykjavik, Dr. Osterwalder met with representatives of the UNU Icelandic Programmes, including the Fisheries Training Programme, the Geothermal Training Programme, and the Land Restoration Programme.

Dr. Konrad Osterwalder has been the rector of the UNU since he was appointed to that post by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in 2007.  On his nearly week-long visit, Dr. Osterwalder was given a comprehensive overview of the UNU's work in Iceland when he toured the facilities at the Marine Research Institute, Orkustofnun, and Keldnaholt.  Dr. Osterwalder also met with the University of Iceland and the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs and toured MATIS, and the Hellisheidi Geothermal Power Plant.
