UNU-FTP Welcomes Fellows for Six Month Training
This week, the United Nations University Fisheries Training Programme welcomed 22 new fellows for the six month training course in Iceland. This is the 17th cohort to participate in the six month training since the programme was first established in 1998.
Fellows join us this year from 15 countries, including: Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh (2), China (2), Vietnam (2), East Timor, Ukraine, Cuba (2), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, and Jamaica.
As always, the fellows will spend the first several weeks of the programme in the introductory course. The introductory course focuses on providing an international context for fisheries. Additionally, fellows visit a large number of companies and institutions to provide a broad picture of how the fisheries sector functions and how it responds to changing circumstances. Upon completion of the introductory course, fellows will specialize in either Quality Management of Fish Handling and Processing, Sustainable Aquaculture, or Marine and Inland Waters Stock Assessment, before going on to complete their individual research projects.
We wish them all the best of luck, and look forward to watching them accomplish great things.
