UNU-FTP Visits the North of Iceland

The UNU-FTP fellows have arrived in Akureyri in the northern part of Iceland for the last part of the introductory course. While here, the fellows will have the opportunity to visit many companies that are actively working in the field of Icelandic fisheries and on an international level hear lectures from the University of Akureyri School of Business and Science.

The UNU-FTP takes a trip every year to the north of Iceland to see first-hand the work done in the fishing industry and associated research. This trip, the UNU-FTP fellows will visit several companies, including Slippur (the shipyard in Akureyri) Seigla (boat building company) Samherji (fish processor) Promens (Polyethylene factory) Laugafiskur (fish drying) the Whale Museum in Húsavík, Atlantic Leather, and Holar University College. In addition, the University of Akureyri gives lectures to supplement these visits.

At the conclusion of this trip, most of the fellows will return to Reykjavik to move into the work in the second part of the six month training course, but those who participate in the Company Management line of specialization will stay in Akyreyri for the duration of that part of the course.
