UNU-FTP fellows visit the Icelandic Coast Guard and Directorate of Fisheries
25 October 2013
Yesterday, the UNU-FTP fellows paid a visit to the Icelandic Coast Guard and Directorate of Fisheries. Both visits were very informative and help the fellows to develop a better understanding of fisheries management in Iceland.
At the Coast Guard, the fellows were shown how Iceland monitors and enforces fishing activities in its EEZ and other responsibilities of the agency. At the Directorate of Fisheries, the fellows learned about Iceland's highly technical fisheries management system, including the individual transferable quota (ITQ), automated landings, and other monitoring systems.
