United Nations Association of Iceland Celebrates the UNU
The seminar on Sustainable Education was hosted by the United Nations Association of Iceland and was held at the University of Iceland last Friday. This seminar was particularly special because for the first time, fellows from all three UNU programmes in Iceland and the Gender Equity Training Programme were given the chance to meet one another and network.
The seminar began with an introduction from Þröstur Freyr Gylfason, the Chairman of the United Nations Association in Iceland, who was followed by Ingvar Birgir Friðleifsson, Director of the UNU-GTP who gave an overview of the UNU programmes in Iceland. The next group of speakers were representatives from the UNU fellows for each programme, including: Maxine Mekio Lahan (Papua New Guinea, UNU-GTP) Van Minh Nguyen (Vietnam, UNU-FTP) William Nsimiire (Uganda, UNU-LRT) Ahmed Abunahla (Gaza, Gender Equality Training Programme). The fellows were followed by Anna Katarzyna Wozniczka (Poland, University of Iceland) who discussed multicultural education. The keynote address was given by Dr. Ólafur Páll Jónsson, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Education Studies at the University of Iceland who discussed Sustainability and Education.
After the seminar, the participants were invited for a networking event and had a chance to meet fellows from all over the world from the UNU programmes.
