Leadership Short Course with the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism
This week, the UNU-FTP is holding a short course on Leadership in cooperation with the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) for senior fisheries officers in CRFM member states. The course was developed in collaboration with the University of Belize and the University of Akureyri, and the content is based on a similar course held by the UNU-FTP in 2010.
In total there are 17 senior fisheries officers (6 women) from various countries in the Caribbean. The lecturers come from the University of Belize (Sharett Yearwood and Dr. Bernard Watler)
and from the University of Akureyri. The course is hosted by the Department of Fisheries in St. Lucia at the Palm Haven Hotel in Rodney Bay.
At the opening the Minister of Agriculture, Food Production, Fisheries and Rural Development, Honorable Moses Jn Baptiste and the deputy minister, Mrs. Sonia Monrose, took part in the opening
ceremony which was chaired by Mr. Rufus George, the Chief Fisheries Officer in the Department of Fisheries in St. Lucia.
The UNU-FTP has a long history of cooperation with the CRFM, which is a valuable partnership in our efforts to promote fisheries development in Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Last year, the UNU-FTP and the CRFM signed a memorandum of understanding and we look forward to many more fruitful activities in the coming years.
