Congratulations to UNU fellow, Dr. Cyprian Ogombe Odoli
On Thursday, October 22, UNU-FTP fellow and scholarship recipient Cyprian Ogombe Odoli successfully defended his doctoral thesis in food science at the University of Iceland. His project title was "Drying and smoking of capelin and sardine - the influence on physiochemical properties and consumer acceptance." Dr. Odoi did his doctoral work at Matis in Reykjavik and the Kenyan Marine & Fisheries Research Institute in Mombasa through support of the United Nations University.
The opponents at the defense were Dr. Morten Sivertsvik, the Director of Research, Processing, Technology, Nofima, Norway and Dr. Hjörleifur Einarsson, Professor at the Faculty of Natural Resource Sciences at the University of Akureyri, Iceland. Dr. Odoli was supervised by Professor Sigurjon Arason of the Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Iceland.
Dr. Cyprian Ogombe Odoli was bornin Kenya in 1974. He finished the six month training at the UNU-FTP in 2006, and was then sponsored to complete his MSc and PhD studies through the UNU-FTP scholarship programme. Cyprian completed his MSc in food science at the University of Iceland in 2009, and began his doctoral studies in Iceland in 2012.
He is now back in Kenya with his family, and we in Iceland wish him all the best in his future work!
