Congratulations to the 2013 UNU-FTP Fellows!
Congratulations to the 2012-13 UNU-FTP fellows who officially completed the 6 month training course in Iceland! This week, the UNU-FTP fellows celebrated their graduation from the 6 month training programme with a ceremony hosted by the Marine Research Institute. This was the 15th cohort that has graduated since the FTP began in 1998.
This year the fellows joined us from Kenya (3), Tanzania (3), South Africa (2), Liberia, Mozambique (2), Cameroon, Ghana (2), Indonesia (2), Vietnam, China, Haiti, St. Vincent and Grenadines, and Antigua and Barbuda. The fellows specialized in one of four areas: Quality Management of Fish Handling and Processing, Fish Stock Assessment, Fisheries Policy and Planning, and Management of Fishing Companies and Marketing.
At the graduation, we were so pleased to hear the wonderful speeches delivered by Johann Sigurjonsson, Director of the Marine Research Institute of Iceland, and Einar Gunnarsson, the Permanent Secretary of the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs. In addition, we were dazzled by the speech made by Tricia Lovell from Antigua and Barbuda on behalf of the fellows. It was a pleasure to share the past 6 months with this wonderful group of people, and we are all excited to watch them go out into the world and accomplish many more great things in the field of fisheries.
