Visit to Land and Forest Iceland in Gunnarsholt
Last week, the GRÓ LRT fellows visited the former headquarters of the Soil Conservation Service of Iceland, now the newly established government agency, Land and Forest Iceland.
During the two-day visit to Gunnarsholt the fellows gained valuable insights into the work, operations and rich history of the agency. The fellows had the opportunity to explore various facilities and experimental areas utilized by Land and Forest as well as engaging with staff members who shared details about the diverse projects the agency is working on.
Furthermore, the fellows visited the Sagnagarður visitor centre, which provides a comprehensive narrative of Iceland's land degradation, along with the captivating tale of land restoration and soil stabilization spanning over the past century – or since the agency was founded in 1907.
We thank Land and Forest for the warm welcome and continued partnership within the GRÓ LRT Programme.
